The client for the San Benito house gave Miguel carte blanche. There were three stipulations: that the design include high ceilings, water, and a hanging bed.
This contemporary minimalist structure is diminutive, a mere 30 square meters. Its appearance however belies that fact. High ceilings create an open feeling as do curtains of glass that serve as walls. After coursing down a series of domino shaped lozenges embeded in a bright orange wall, water cascades into a canal which runs across the property.
The bedroom is located behind the all purpose room and elevated some 4 ft. Its windows are shaded by vertical slats of peeled zapote branches which support wild orchids indigenous to the area. The bed hangs directly in front of the glass doors which offers an unimpeded view of the water.
