Unique to the McClatchie house is its art gallery, a space that satisfies the demands for the display of contemporary art while retaining the elegance of the original colonial/art deco building.
The frank functionality of bars and chains for the hanging of pictures is offset by the colonial elegance of a textured wall that leads the eye up to an eight meter ceiling. Wooden beams retain their original paint, a turquois/green enamel, echoed by the wall's pale green wash. A Buddhist prayer wheel, surmounting a rough hewn triangle of Ticul stone, is embedded in the feature wall.
Three fountains, each unique, grace the long narrow property, the sound of flowing water underscoring the tranquility of the space. One of the fountains - a slate clad cube - cascades into a river of stones and from there into a lap pool which traverses the back yard.
